Preventing Age Discrimination in the Workplace
Dec 20, 2022It is important for businesses to remember they can have exposure to legal claims for NOT hiring a person because of a protected class (race, religion, gender, age). Therefore, it is imperative for hiring managers to keep in mind candidates should be hired based on experience, qualifications and ability to perform the job. Do not to hire based on personal bias or past interactions. In order to do so, here are suggested tips for the interview process:
1. Ask performance based questions based on what the employee needs to be successful.
2. Ask applicants the same questions so you have a fair assessment of the answers.
3. Make sure the people conducting the interview are properly trained and know which questions they can/cannot ask.
Knowing how to properly conduct an interview is a proactive step your business can take to protect itself from employment based lawsuits. How do you conduct interviews? What types of questions do you ask?
